For the second time this year I am headed out to California. The first time was for Where2.0. This time it is for a company meeting and to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We will be in Anaheim CA and will be going on a boat cruise Friday night. The other time will be spent meeting new people and normal company meeting type stuff. Maybe this time I will at least get to see the ocean.
Well it is offical, Wa-jiw and I have released our first Facebook Application. We have a couple more tweaks to it but now we are just waiting for the users to come rolling in. The basic idea is that it allows user to buy and sell books from each other. We have thrown in some other book stores as well to give the user the ability to choose where they want to buy their books from. I am hoping that it gets big enough to make a little money off of. I learned a lot about the API making this application and hope to learn how to market an application now. This is a good milestone for us as we have a couple of other ideas that we would like to work on.
Today I ran across The Chicago Geek Guide. If you live in or around the Chicago area this site is aiming to be the definitive guide for all things techy in the CHI. The site links to mailing lists, users groups, news and events. This will be a great guide. It would be even better if it was a wiki but for now I will take it. This is a great asset and will help me found some great user groups to participate in.
This idea is very doable and simple. Essentially what you would do is build a device that would allow you to resell EVDO to those people riding in private coaches or limos. They just want to check their email on the way to the airport and would like to use thier computer. So you build a little box that does EVDO to WIFI and maybe make it for pay or have the Livery service pay for the device to entice their customers. Pretty simple I think. Seems very do-able and an idea that I have been thinking about for 2 years!
It is official Hollywood video is closing both of it’s stores in Elgin Il. This really stinks I have been going to my local store for movies every week for the last 2.5 years. The closest store is now two far away. So I guess I will be canceling my MVP subscription. I looked on the Hollywoodvideo.com web site and noticed that they have updated the store location database. If you want to find out if your local Hollywood Video store will be closing you can check out your location using their store locator.
If Hollywood wants to survive they need to go directly to download movies and skip DVDs all together. They already have a great recommendation service that will help drive sales.
This one is going to be short and sweet. This is an idea I would love to see and have told any person who is cutting my hair this idea in hopes they would implement it. basically one would buy a RV rip out the insides and put a seat and a sink in there and drive around and cut hair. They could pull up to a big office park and cut hair all day. With an online reservation service I am sure there would be no shortage of clients. They got dentists why not people who cut hair?
